With father’s day around the corner, it’s a good time to ask if you’ve had a talk with your dad about his health.

Many fathers are reluctant to talk about their health with their kids, while some talk all too much about it!

Nevertheless, as your dad gets older, it is a good idea to have trust and confidence to be able to converse with him about something so important as his health.

Nowadays people are living longer than ever before. The average lifespan of American men is approaching 80 years of age, the longest in recorded history.

Medicine and care are getting better every day, which has contributed to this new reality. This also means that as people are living longer, getting older means more quality of life and more possibilities.

As such, keeping healthy as we get older is always a good goal to have. Even if you are a senior, it is never too late to adopt good health habits.

In this sense, simple habits can make a big difference. Have you considered offering to go for a walk with your dad and making it a habit? Start with a 3-mile stroll and build up to 4 or 5 miles. You’ll both get immense benefits for your health, spend quality time together, and most importantly establish a habit that will improve both of your quality of life.

Little things like this add up. So perhaps this year for father’s day, instead of the pancake, bacon, and sausage fest, you can try implementing a new tradition, such as a nature walk, bike ride, or hike followed by a healthy and delicious brunch. Now is the time to start working towards a better, healthier future for our dads and for ourselves.
