Like other respiratory diseases, the Covid-19 coronavirus attacks the elderly and people with previous medical complications with special virulence. Not so much to the kids. According to data tested by China through February 11, coronavirus mortality rates vary greatly by age. From 0 to 39 years old, it ranks approximately 0.2% among detected cases. About twice as much as the regular flu.

Mortality grows at 0.4% between the ages of 40 and 49, and henceforth: 50-59 years (1.3%), 60-69 (3.6%), 70-79 (8%) and more than 80 years, where the rate studied in that period grew to 14.8%.

This is the main at-risk population, according to Chinese experience and as is being proven in the case of Italy. The 12 confirmed fatalities so far are over 62 years old and almost all had previous pathological complications of seriousness.

-Adriano Trevisan, 78, was the first confirmed victim on Friday, February 20. Neighboring the town of Vo’Euganeo in Veneto had been admitted for ten days for pneumonia at the Schiavonia hospital in Padua. I had never been to China, nor had i been in contact with any at-risk person. He was only tested for coronavirus shortly before he died, with a positive result. It is the only death unrelated to Lombardy’s focus, and the one with the most riddles.

-The second victim is a 75-year-old woman from Casalpusterlengo, the town where Mattia, the 38-year-old, strong and sportsman, works, who is considered to be ‘patient 1’ of the disease. It is believed that this woman was able to get infected after visiting the medical center that Mattia had previously gone through without the protocols having yet been activated. There are no extensive details on the causes of his death, but he tested positive for coronavirus in a postmortem test.

Italy has confirmed the seventh fatality and 229 cases in seven regions

-Angela Denti, 68, is the third and youngest victim of the current coronavirus outbreak in northern Italy. He died on Sunday at the Crema hospital in Lombardy, although he had the worst clinical picture of all. She was admitted to the Oncology plant and shortly before her death had suffered a heart attack followed by a respiratory crisis caused, as subsequently proven, by the coronavirus.

-In the early morning of Sunday to Monday, an 84-year-old man has become the fourth fatality in the outbreak. He has died in the bergamo hospital, where he had been transferred from the alzano medical center. He had a rather advanced respiratory picture when tested positive for coronavirus.

-The fifth deceased is an 88-year-old elderly man from the village of Caselle Landi, near the area isolated by the Government, but not in one of the villages where neither entry nor exit is allowed.

-The sixth victim, for the time being the last, is an 80-year-old man who has been admitted since Thursday after suffering a heart attack. He was a resident of Castiglione d’Adda, one of the towns marked as the “focus” of the outbreak. He was transferred to the Sacco hospital in Milan upon his resuscitation, which was also a positive painting for coronavirus.

-The seventh confirmed victim is the youngest of them all and is a 62-year-old woman, a resident of Castiglione d’Adda and who also suffered from previous pathologies, according to the Italian press.

-On Tuesday, three other victims were confirmed in Lombardy, bringing the total up to ten. They were also old. An 84-year-old man from Nembro, in the province of Bergamo, and a 91-year-old man in San Fiorano. Alongside them was confirmed the death of an 83-year-old woman from Codogno, in the middle of the ‘red zone’ of the outbreak.

-In Veneto, at the same time, victim number eleven was confirmed. She is a 76-year-old woman who was hospitalized in Treviso, north of Venice, for respiratory complications.

-The 12th victim was confirmed on Wednesday and is a 69-year-old man from the town of Lodi, located between Codogno and Milan, with previous respiratory complications and aggravated by coronavirus, in which he had tested positive.
